Growing up, I traveled a lot, but never truly appreciated it until I was older. Forty-six states by the time I turned 18, and it has taken me the next twenty years to get the full fifty. Once Alaska is checked off, we can start concentrating on getting outside the country regularly. I’ve got some tentative plans for a future trip, but we’ll see what happens. I still hold out hope that the lottery will fill the role as my retirement plan, and I won’t have to worry about pesky things like “cost” and “vacation days”…
Until then, I travel (with my wife, of course – like she would let me go awesome places by myself…) when time and money allow. My personal goal is at least one new county every other year, or more frequently if possible. My wife’s goal is to see new birds each trip, so we should be able to make this work without too much trouble.
This blog is to document these trips, and allow us to keep our friends and family involved and updated as we travel. We are fortunate enough to be able to go on vacations at pretty regular intervals, so maybe this will help someone else as they plan future trips. Plus, I’m going to try to throw in some cool photos and maybe videos (in which birds will likely be very prevalent because, well, Melissa), so it won’t all be boring narrative.
When we aren’t traveling, I may revisit past trips (boy, do I have a lot of photos – hope you love Star Trek conventions!) and maybe start threads on travel advice or favorite places to go. We will see how this goes – I’ve always enjoyed writing, but I also enjoy reading, Netflix, video games… Clearly, other interests abound…
Feel free to comment (nicely please – I am a sensitive soul, and likely a lot bigger than you), and I hope you enjoy!
